Pal –> Ntsc
Hi,
I ve got a Panasonic NV-GS 200 that work great in my opinion (at least for a rookie like me), and I’ve been making some movies. The problem is that I’m French and so I use the Pal system, but my mother in law is American, and so she uses the Ntsc system. We mostly bought the camera to make some movies for my family in the states, but we also want to enjoy the movie.
All I have recorded so far is with a Pal Camera, and I export it in Pal into PP 1.5, so I guess that I have to render it in Pal too. How to convert without loosing too much quality into NTSC? Or will she be able to watch the DVD even if they are in Pal?
I have to admit that I am kind of lost between those formats 🙁Thanks in advance for your help.

PS: if you have a good way (free cause I’m broken financially between PP 1.5 and the camera) to make movies look more like 35mn movies, i would be very interested.

A PAL DVD wont play in most players here in the States. It wont cost much to try the conversion with Pro, but from what I have read, the quality is poor. Many folks have used ProCoder from Canopus to do this with good results.
How about shipping Mom a $39 PAL DVD player with your first movie? -
Yep, I agree with Mike. Procoder is pretty good for this sort of thing, but if you want Rolls Royce, go Snell & Wilcox Alchemist.

Thank you for your reply and I will try to find out more about those softwares. As for sending a DVD player, I would have done it if it wasnt for the fact that France (and Europe as a rule) uses 220V and USA 110V and a different frequence, so that would be too much trouble to send a DVD player, plus an electric converter…. 🙂

Like Mike says Procoder is a good way to go, only you want “Procoder Express”, its about 50/60 euro, the regular Procoder is much more expensive.

and she would need a new TV set also to view the PAL DVD…..
