    PAL footage for eventual HD output

    I’ve inherited a FCP7 project that was shot in PAL. And I expect the final deliverable will be an up-rez to HD. Before I box myself into a workflow, I am wondering if anyone’s had to do this before. To me, the options seem like:

    1. Edit and output in PAL, convert to HD, add titles and graphics to HD version, output
    2. Edit PAL footage in an HD sequence, let FCP do all the conversions
    3. Convert all PAL footage now to ProRes, edit in HD from ProRes conversions
    4. Buy Magic Bullet InstantHD

    Any recommendations on editing in PAL vs HD or dealing with this workflow? I should also say that I realize that there are better ways to up-rez than what I’ve outlined, but I think budget rules out anything elaborate or expensive.

    I think this is the best workflow.
    Use your best available tool for the upscaling.
