I’ve read several thoughts on the ability to convert PAL to NTSC footage. It seems the best way to do this is using Cinema Tools. The short of it is that I will have most footage shot at 24pa on a dvx100a. I will cut at 23.98 with the pulldown removed.

However, I will have two tapes of PAL footage that I will want to put in that same timeline. Can anyone point me to a workflow on how to convert the PAL footage so that I can use it in a 23.98 timeline? I’m not very familiar with Cinema Tools and my fcp4 manuals and some books don’t have any explanation.

    Thanks,

    PK

    Hi

You should digitize your material with a PAL preset and then do a “Batch Conform” 25 to 24. This will “deccelerate” the video speed and will work in your 23.98 timeline.

I understand this pal tapes comes from a digital camera and not from a 35mm telecine. If you are using telecine tapes don’t forget to input the “flex” files into CinemaTools.

    Hope it helps

Thanks Felix. After some more digging and testing, I had to go through multiple steps. The conform feature in CT didn’t fully do the trick. I had to use Compressor to physically change the file.
