Pacing an edit..
I’m not sure where to post this but I’m hoping this is the correct place!
It’s not really a tech question but a technique question..
I’ve been editing for 2years now and what I would like to ask is for any tips on pacing an edit.
I realise that for example, a fight scene would be fast paced, a romantic scene may be slow paced etc. What I’m really asking are for tips and advice on how to engage an audience in the most effective way? How do you know when something has been shown for long enough for example? Some of this would be creative judgement I know, but any tips from the more experienced editors would be very helpful. Thanks 🙂 -

I like to use some music appropriate for the subject and it helps give me a sense of how long a clip should be and when to cut to the next one. Also, since attention spans are short, I try to keep the clips short. For web based material three or four minutes is a good length and that restriction forces a certain pace.
