p2 video has “artifacts” after transferred
What’s happening is that we are shooting video using a p2 card. When played back in a p2 player or when playing back in the file and transfer window of FCP, the video plays back with no issues. However, once I complete the transfer and it adds the video to my bin in FCP, there are frames in the video that have artifacts in it. It will show up usually two or three times in the footage once we transfer it. You can see a screenshot below of what I’m talking about. Any ideas as to what this could be and how to correct it?

Offload the media from the P2 card to a hard drive first, then log and transfer. Don’t log and transfer right from the card.

It might be glitchy due to a bad import…do what jeremy says and back it up. But that also happens with dirty connections between the card and the camera. If THAT is the case, it is permanently on the footage…corrupted video image.
But this also happens a lot when people don’t lock the card when they connect it to a mac, as macs, when they see new storage of ANY kind connected to the computer, write a few invisible directory files to the storage…even P2 cards. And these files can cause corruption. Which is why you a) LOCK the card before you attach it to the computer and b) backup the cards…the FULL file structure.

We did try several imports. Same glitches. However, when we preview the footage in the file and transfer, none of those appear. We actually moved it to a different computer, using the same p2 capture device, firewire and power cable and had no issue. Captured it directly from the card and none of the noise showed up after transferring it. I’ll try to offload the files off the card before hand.
