I’ve been working with the P2 workflow for a while, using the Duel adapter to download footage to an external drive through a MacBook Pro. I was wondering if anyone knows whether the adapter slows down the data transfer speed vs. an old MacBook that has the slot built into the laptop. And whether downloading to Firewire 800 drives vs. USB 2.0 drives (which I use now) will increase the transfer time significantly?
    Thanks,
    Nick

My Powerbook G4 with the built in slot is faster than my MBP with the Duel was, but I had other issues with the Duel too. For data transfer FW or USB doesn’t really matter…they are both as fast.

    In my experience.

I get 8 minutes per 16GB R Series P2 card with my MBPro and Duel Adapter. I offload using using ShotPut Pro to 2 FW 800 drives. I’m waiting for the 64 GB E series to see how much faster they are.

My experience is the same as Steve’s with Shotput, MBP, Duel and FW800 mirrored RAID.

I have found FW400 and USB2 are about the same speed (roughly) 1GB minute but FW800 is twice as fast (roughly) 2GB minute. I believe the drives are the bottleneck.
