p2 support?
Posted by Dave on April 23, 2005 at 11:41 pmStill getting the basic from the new camera lineups. Anyone know if Vegas will support the new Pansonix p2 format?

April 24, 2005 at 12:24 amGood question–I would say not—By the way, the prices on those 16 minute memory cards are something like 2000 a shot—You buy two cards and its about the price of the camera! Also, you can’t save to DVPRO50 and other formats without the cards—-Everyone keeps saying that the prices of the cards will come down—they had better or this product won’t get wide market penetration.

April 24, 2005 at 5:12 pmYou’re being generous in your pricing – they’re actually over $2000 each for the 8GB – that means $4000 add on to shoot 16min of HD. Very cool concept and workflow but way too pricey right now.
Vegas doesn’t have to have built-in support for P2 – the footage would be transferred to your media drives just like any other file transfer (firewire etc.)

April 24, 2005 at 5:13 pmYeah Lance, I don’t understand all the excitement by the Indie community. I figure its going to take a couple of years before those sticks become reasonably priced–by then who knows what new technology will be out there in the market place.

April 24, 2005 at 5:21 pmIt reminds of the early XL1 days – everyone had to have to XL1 because you could change lenses – yet of the dozens of XL1 users I know, NOT ONE ever bought an additional lens!
Now everyone is defending the HVX200 and P2 as if it’s the Holy Grail and it’s 6 months from being released! I’m sure the camera’s going to be great, but what if Panasonic comes out with a HVX300 at NAB 2006 – what is the church of the HVX200 going to do then?
Just plain whacky!
(not to say I won’t be in line to buy the 200 if it performs as planned)

April 25, 2005 at 12:53 amThe P2 has already come down. In a recent press release, the 8GB P2 will be $1700.00. I hope they will get even cheaper. If not, I will happily capture to an external HD solution. As I will with my DVX100 and XL1. Tape will die out soon. Even if a HVX300 comes out, the 200 will be good for at least the next 5-7 years. FYI- tape will die for me soon. Spent 6 hours yesterday filming a wedding. Spent 5 hours today capturing. Let the tape death begin. (120 GB Harddrive $39.00 Yeeehaaaa!)
