    Hi –
you have your edit system (FCP, AVID Adrenaline, etc.) and you have everything working just fine. Without owning a
Panasonic AJ-HPM100, is there a way to “master back” to the P2 card ?

What if the truck has a AJ-HPM100 they are playing back from, and you want to hand them an “edited master” on P2 (hey, someone asked me). Is there a way to do this ?

Premiere Pro CS3 can export back to P2. Not sure about the others.

to answer my own question – (from the Panasonic site)

Can I write back to my P2 card?
Yes, on Windows systems the P2 Card is treated just like any other removable storage device; you can format it, copy files off of it, or copy files to it, at will. In addition, P2-compliant NLE systems also allow you to write back to the card. You can also use the P2 Contents Management System software to copy entire clips or groups of clips onto or off of your card.
The Macintosh operating system won’t let you copy files to a P2 Card from the Finder. However, you can use P2CMS to copy files to the card. In addition, Raylight for MAC software allows you to write back to a MAC.

You can also “print to Video” over 1394 to the P2 card and play the timeline back to the P2 card and have the camera record it. And this you can do on a Mac.

[Vincent Becquiot] “Premiere Pro CS3 can export back to P2. Not sure about the others.”

EDIUS Broadcast can export back to the cards as well.

Avid and FCP can “print to video” out the firewire port, and an HVX200, HPX500, P2 Gear or P2 Mobile can record the incoming firewire data stream on a P2 card.

The one drawback in FCP is that it goes out with 24p standard cadence so recapturing is a bit of an extra work if you want it back in 24p. But other than that- yes no problem.

With Raylight for Mac ( https://dvfilm.com/raylight/mac ) you can author a card with metadata from FCP. It’s very simple, with Raylight running in the background you export a DV/DVCPRO/DVCPROHD quicktime from FCP, when it finishes it is automatically converted to an MXF file and copied to the P2 card, with metadata that you either enter in or copy from a source clip. It’s much faster and easier than using firewire and does not require a camera to do it. 720/24PN material is copied without conversion to another format and will take up less space on the card.

    Jan,
    I have an HVX500.
When you “print to video” over firewire can you do this with an HVX500 and record 1080i ?
Also using the 500 with the P2CMS on a mac can (and how would you) upload files (including spanned files) to multiple cards? Or is it necessary to do it one card at a time?
    Thanks
