P2 Import to Suite

Not really sure what you could do wrong there. What codec are they? What resolution and frame rate? Where are your media files?

Very new at this.

I shot (2) clips on the panasonic HPX300.
AVC-1_100_1080/29.97p
DVCPROHD_1080/59.94i

I offloaded the clips into the Panasonic P2 Contents management software.
I then went into M100 and attempted to import P2.

Both clips appear to be importing correctly however – once in my bin – there is no (black) image in the thumbnail of the clip & playback tells me – bad frame as a pop up (that I can’t seem to escape with out force quitting M100.

The “bad video frame” means that the system tries to decode a file, but it gets not what it expects. So most likely it imported the files with a codec that is not supported in Media 100. AVC-Intra is right now not a codec that can be played back natively; only with a conversion e.g. via the MXF plugin from “Calibrated”.
When you put the bin in list view, what codecs, framerates and resolutions are displayed for the files?

As Floh mentioned, M100 cannot currently handle AVC-Intra “natively”.

As for the DVCPROHD clip, however, a clue might be gained by going to:
“Media 100 Suite” menu > Project Settings > Codecs…

In there, under the “HD” tab, see if “DVCPro HD” is greyed out in the drop-down menus. If so, that means that a codec component that can understand DVCPro HD is not installed. If installed, the component would be found in: MacHD\Library\QuickTime.

Most often, they get there by installing Final Cut Pro. However, there are other solutions (Flow mentioned Calibrated Software) out there in the world.

I think you found my problem. In list mode it’s saying “Codec Not Installed dvh6”

If you have FCP somewhere you can copy the DVCPro codecs from the Library->QuickTime folder to your system. If not, you could have a look at the DVCPro Decoder from Calibrated. They have a free trial version.
