    We shot a commercial on i believe the Panasonic AJ-HPX3000. In 1080i and at 24P. We are having slight storbeing problems with our transferred video. when the talent moves a bit there is sometimes a slightly noticeable jitter in the video?

    Here are my questions:

    When you transfer P2 footage into Final Cut do you have to select the codec that you want the footage to be brought into Final Cut as? Like a capture setting or easy setup? I could not find this.

    If the footage was shot in 24p why is the frame rate of your clips 29.97 in the bin?

    We brought one of our clips into the timeline and the “your clip settings do not match your sequence setting, do you want to change your sequence settings to match your clip setting”s box came open. we clicked yes. could that have been a mistake, it dont think so but you never know

    Nope. FCP will import the footage in the exact same codec as it was shot. You cannot convert this footage with FCP. All Log and Transfer does is marry audio and video inside a quicktime wrapper.

    Did you shoot AVCIntra or DVCPRO HD?

    It might have been shot…OH! 1080i 24PA? Was it shot that way? If so, you need to remove the pulldown when importing. You do this by going into the preferences in the Log and Transfer window.

    This only works if you shot 1080i 24pa. If you shot 1080i 24p, then your footage will be 24p running at 29.97. If you need to get it to 23.98, then you might need to use Cinema Tools to reverse telecine the footage. That option is also available in FCP in the TOOLS menu.

    1080i and 24p are two completely different things.

    1080i is interlaced video

    24p is progressive video

    what did you actually shoot?

    We shot the footage in DVCPRO HD an it was 24P not 24PA. It is weird because the frame rate for each of the clips is 29.97? Could explain the everse telecine thing in final cut

    Not weird at all. 1080i 24p runs at 29.97…it just has the 24p cadence.

    Matt, I could be wrong, but I believe that camera shoots 23.98 PSF (essentially 24pN) in AVCINtra mode only. In DVCPro HD, it’s 24p with opulldown bringing the footage to 29.97.

    Take all of your orig quicktime clips (the ones right out of the Capture Scratch) and run a reverse telecine on them through COmpressor. The process is damn near automatic and painless as long as you set the frame size and codec properly.

    That would explain the 29.97 frame rate. We are all trying to lear as we go wit this camera. Thanks for the advice. I will pass it along and test out a clip in compressor tomorrow morning. Thanks again

    Thanks a bunch you all have been very helpful. The camera actually just got a AVCINtra installed. We did not use it but apparently we should have. I am going to run a test in CO and see if that fixes your jitter problem.

    Oh man, if you have the choice, shoot AVCIntra. It’s 10bit native full raster recording and looks freaking great. The footage gets transcoded to ProRes in the log and capture process as AVCIntra seems to not be ready for real time editing. The process takes a bit longer to ingest than DVCPro HD, but it is well worth the wait. Panasonic did a very nice job with AVCIntra.
