What do you mean by “cannot”? Is premiere giving you an error message?

Why are you editing this offline anyway? Your computer would appear more then capable of an On-line edit.

Yes, Premiere says something like can´t do that because the relinked files have different audio tracks than the offline ones.

Of course, my computer can handle an online edit with p2 files with no problem, but I´m doing this only for my classes, as i´m a video editing teacher, and a student asked me for the way of editing hd files with a less powerful computer. I´m trying to make a proyect for him to understand this workflow.

The question is not really very important, as the student´s footage is in AVCHD format with (i guess) two stereo tracks, but just wondering how to do it if the footage would be from a p2 camera like mine.

I’ve swapped P2 footage for stuff with only 2 tracks, though not the other way around like you’re trying to do.

How are you swapping the files? Are you useing replace media or making the files offline and then linking to the new files? Which ever you’re useing you should try the other.

The real problem is that premiere isn’t really made for an offline/online workflow… adobe’s philosophy is online all the way. AVID would do this best. I aggre though, his AVCHD footage sould work much better. P2 is just plain funny to work with sometimes.

Hi,
ok it’s been six month, but I am having trouble with low res offline/online media for editing on laptop.
I’ve tried this way,
– import online p2 1080 in new ppro cs6 project,
– import same file in media encoder,
– transcode to something lighter, like h264 mp4,
– import low res into new bin in ppro,
– do the edit with low res media
– unlink, low res média and trying to relink them to original footage.

The last step is working but not with batch treatment (unlike with fcp), I guess it is because ppro consider the extension *.mp4 or *.mxf as part of the name (so not the same).
I am looking for automatic batch recapture of online hd footage because my project is over 20 hours of 1080p2 and thousands of clips, I can’t do it one by one!
Isn’t there a way to send like an EDL to média encoder so that it does the onlining jobs using edl & metadatas?
If anyone has an idea I would bless it,
