Overwite Trim in 5.5 w/o Smart Tool?
In previous versions of MC to do an overwrite trim (leave black, no ripple) you would enter trim mode (U), select an edit and then (P) or ( ] ) to pick which side and then hold down option period or comma to do an overwrite trim.
This isnt working for me in 5.5.3. Is the only way to do an overwrite trim is activtate the smart tool? i have the tool mapped to a key so its easy enough to turn it on. The problem is, its annoying that i have to then turn it off manually after words by clicking up in the TC or deactiving the smart tool. Otherwise i cant just click around the timeline like iwant to. I like the old behavior much better and ive heard lots of people are on the same boat, so is it posssible to do it the old way any more ?

Not sure about the edit, but you can map the entire smart tools to toggle on and off. For me, I hit “shift-s” and the smart tools activate(whichever one’s I’ve last used), hit “shift-s” again it it’s turned. Saves a little mousing time.

thanks John, actually realized i was keeping the option key down until the trim was complete and thats why i couldnt get overwrite trim to work like it should. duh on my part.
