Overmodulation on the Radio
I am trying to clean up an audio file from a radio broadcast. It is a mono track with three people speaking, all from different places. One is the host which is clean audio but very quiet. The next is a caller that is a little louder and has a little bit of distortion. The third is another caller that is much louder and has tons of overmodulation on it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to clean this up, especially the third, overmodulated speaker?

The only thing I can think of without resorting to high-end plugins is to perhaps duplicate the track three times, find the range of each voice you’re listening for, apply seperate EQ’s to each track to cut back and/or boost your frequencies then add some light compression along with a gate to bring each track up in the mix and cut any noise you don’t need. I dont know if it will help but I’ll have a think and post again if I can think of anything else.
