Overlap a series of stills by same time-amount
Hi,
Still working on my still photo video.
Have a group of stills on the timeline, all in a row, all 5 seconds long. In the Options, I could not identify exactly the command to get them to overlap a time-amount, so that when played, they sort of fade a bit into each other.
Question: How would I now:
A) Extend the time of each (all) photos from the existing 5, to new 10 seconds each.
B) Overlap each photo with the next one by about 2 seconds.
C) Use the same transition type on all these overlaps.
Or….do I do it the hard way, one at a time?

This is where Excalibur comes in so handy. You can do all of those things in a few clicks.

I have Vegas 6d and Excalibur by Ed Troxel. I’m working on a project with 2500 pictures from China and slowly deleting the ones I don’t need. I have all my landscape pictures on one timeline and the portrait pictures on the timeline below. Every image is in numerical order. I have each image at 5 seconds long with one second fades on each end. Plus, I have an introduction and conclusion to my images. With Excalbur, just right click onto the 1st image and select events to end on that timeline, click the fade icon and all your images have the same 1 second fade on each end or whatever amount you set in Excalibur. As Gary states, you’ll save tons of time. Look for Ed Troxel’s name in the forum and click onto the link below his name. Excalibur might still have a 30 day trial period.

I do this so seldom (maybe once a year) for friends, and for relatively few photos (maybe 30 or so) that I haven’t focused on a “batch process” software like Excalibur. So that I won’t waste the short time free trial, I will wait until I have a “project.”
Meanwhile… in the Options/Preferences/Editing there is a selection: “New Still Image Length” which can be set for a given number of seconds. That is pretty straightforward, and I even used once at 2-frames-per-picture, for a brief amateur animation. Vegas is very good! Is there not another command, that would also pre-set each added photo to the previous, by a specified overlap (cross-fade) amount, in terms of time?
In the same Editing dialog box: What does the “Automatically overlap…” check box and the “cut to overlap” adjustable number do? -

That will tell it whether or not to automatically add crossfades between the events and, if so, the length of the crossfades. It will NOT change the length of the events beyond what you specified in the other box.
