Im preparing a DVD with right under 2 hours of footage ( around 5 videos ) … I rendered them as WMV (which i shouldnt have done) and dvd architect is saying they are alot larger than they really are and i cannot fit them all on the disk. I tried re-rendering the videos as avi (uncompressed ) but the files are still too large. How do I get maximum quality and be able to fit these videos on the dvd. If I rendered them as MPEG-2 would the be small enough to fit on the dvd… 3 of the movies are about 30 minutes each and then a few bumpers. Rendering is taking forever, please help!

    WMV – ugh!!!
Uncompressed AVI – not necessary and, as you discovered, HUGE files.

    You have 2 choices.
#1. Render as DV-AVI and choose the “Fit to Disc” option in DVD Architect when the appropriate page comes up.
#2. Render separate audio (AC-3) and video (MPEG-2) streams from Vegas and then import these into DVD Architect.
You’ll need to set the bitrate for a 2hr. video using a bitrate calculator, available all over the place. Google for one.
Select the “DVD Architect NTSC video stream” template in Vegas but then click “Custom” and then “Video”.
Here is where you can set it for CBR or VBR.
According to the bitrate calculator I use, I get a CBR of 4,700,000 or a VBR of 8,000,000, 4,700,000 and 2,800,000.
Which one to use? Very generically speaking, use CBR if there’s not a lot of motion or differences in light levels. If this isn’t the case, then use the VBR option.

If your are only going to ouput your project to DVD just go ahead and
render your project in Vegas directly to MPEG-2 Video and AC3 Audio.
This will save you drive space and render time. Since you are authoring
your DVD with Architect select the following.
    1) Render As
    2) Save as Type: MainConcept MPEG2, Template: DVD Architect NTSC Video Stream
    3) Click Custom Button and set your bitrate according to Mike’s post.

Now go ahead and render out your MPEG Video file.
This renders out video portion only.
After video is done, render out the audio portion as a AC3 File

    4) Render AS
    5) Save as Type: Dolby Digital AC3
    6) Template: Stereo DVD

Now go ahead and render your audio portion using exactly the same file name
as you used for your MPEG render. This will allow DVD Architect to marry
your Video and Audio clips automatically for you.

    Hope this helps.

how will the “fit to dis” option affect the quality…what is the lowest bitrate i can compress to without losing alot of quality…?

“Fit to disk” will calculate the highest bitrate possible for the amount of video you want to include. Two hours should look ok.
