Outputting Media Composer v3.5 to DVD mpeg-2
Hi,
I am cutting on Avid Media Composer ver3.5 for pc (not mac) in PAL and can’t for the life of me work out how to output to DVD at highest quality. It needs to be Mpeg-2 not Quicktime (mov) or wmv etc. Sorenson Squeeze 5 comes bundled with v3.5 but it doesn’t seem to help when it comes to burning DVDs. I don’t get the Mpeg-2 choice when it comes to exporting, and because I don’t have a mojo, attaching a DVD recorder straight up to the firewire card doesn’t work (the DVD recorder says “too many devices”). I am reduced to laying off to DVCAM tape then recording to DVD from the tape. Surely there’s a better way?

do a video mixdown of your sequence, than output a Quicktime referance movie. Than bring that referance movie into sorenson squeeze. encode it in sorenson to mpeg2, i think they have a DVD presets or something like that. then use Avid DVD or nero or something like that to burn your DVD.

Once you send to SoresonI believe the best way to do it is MPEG 1+2, DVD_Large, go into the settings and change audio from Elementary to Program so you don’t have seperate files. But if that doesn’t work just leave the audio on elementary.

PS Scott – is that just a video mixdown or a consolidate? If just video, what happens to the sound, is that done separately? D

Just a video mixdown, it creates new media for the video. Consolidate is different (in avid terms)
you can do an audio mixdown also, but it’s not nessacery. i usally just copy my original sequence and cut in the new video (from the mixdown) keeping the original audio.
