  • Outputting 48khz audio to DVCam from FCP

I’ve recently had an issue with a client who claims the DVCAM tapes I have been supplying him are not “proper” DVCAM format. He claims the audio is 44.1khz on the tapes and they apparently won’t play in his machines (Sony DSR80P).

This is a big surprise to me because my entire workflow is 48khz.. My footage is shot on DVCAM cameras (Sony Z1P), captured to FCP via firewire from a DVCAM deck (Sony HVR-M15P), edited in a sequence with 48khz settings, then Print to Video back to the Sony HVR-M15P, set on DVCAM mode.

I can’t see where in that chain of events the audio would switch to 44.1khz? Is there possibly some hidden setting in FCP that I need to change?

I have output hundreds of videos from FCP to DVCam over many years and there has never been any problems til now.

How can he TELL that the tapes have 44.1 kHz audio recorded on them?

Do these tapes play on YOUR deck?

If so, then, since DVCAM decks can only play 32 kHz and 48 kHz audio, how is it that they play on YOUR deck?

(Using Logic: If A=B and B=C, then, A=C.)

I’m thinking that if your tapes don’t play audio well on his deck, its more like a head alignment / tracking issue.
