  • Output DVD has square box around it – shrunk picture

    Honey, I’ve shrunk the picture!
Can someone help me with something basic here.
I am trying to burn a dvd from my clip but when I watch it on a standard TV the picture has shrunk and there is black border all the way around the image.

My clip setting is 720×480, 29.97
I used adobe media encoder to export to mpeg2 with the same settings as above (I just take the defaults) and:
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: Standard 4:3
I then take this mpeg and use the app ‘dvd flick’ to burn this mpeg file onto dvd. The dvd flick setting is also 4:3 – so it is set to play on normal tv’s
Then when I play it on my TV it looks like the image has shrunk down to a smaller size.

I don’t have adobe encore which would be the normal route.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Joseph

[Joseph Hankerton] “Pixel Aspect Ratio: Standard 4:3”

    That’s not a pixel aspect ratio. 😉

See: FAQ:Why are there black borders/bars?

    Cheers

    hi joseph,

the settings you have used for exporting looks fine. however, what was the project setting which you had taken ? For the work flow that you are trying, you need to take a NTSC STD project. you can also try one more thing to narrow down the problem. try playing back the AME output and see if this output has got those black-borders. If no, then this could be a bug in the application you are using for burning the DVD.

    thanks,
    Prateek
