    Hi All,

I am trying to output a 10 bit uncompressed FCP timeline to a Mini DV tape for broadcast. I wanted to know what is the way the get the best qaulity results. Do I use SDI or Component? Is it possible to connect my laptop with a blackmagik SDI External Card to output without losing quality?

    thanks,

    Rizwan

MiniDV is a highly-compressed 8-bit 4:1:1 (or 4:2:0, depending on your region) format.

    Could you use DigiBeta instead?>

No need of any hardware. Transcode the movie to DV and print to tape.

If your DV deck had both of these connections (it’d have to be DVCPro25 or DVCAM), I’d go SDI over component.

Nope. No internal cards can go on a laptop. AJA and matrox both make devices for output from a laptop.
