Out putting project to DVD in Vegas 9

Using all defaults in Vegas makes for a 70-minute DVD. Anything longer requires that you use a lower than default bitrate to make your MPEG file.

I have never made a DVD directly from the Vegas Timeline. Go to the “Render As” menu and make your MPEG2 and AC3 files from there. When encoding the MPEG2 file, open the “Customize Template” option and lower your maximum bitrate.

You can find a bitrate calculator on the web. I use “Marks Bitrate Calculator”.

When you have the MPEG2 and AC3 files, drag the MPG file to your DVDA Project Overview window.

Thanks Steve, I don’t have DVDA. I was hoping for a solution within Vegas. So if I get DVDA I need to render an MPEG2 and an AC3 file to bring into DVDA? Sorry for the “newby” questions

Unless you got it as part of a camera purchase, DVDA comes with Vegas.

Creating a DVD from the Timeline

From the Tools menu, choose Burn Disc, and then choose DVD from the submenu to render your project and burn it to a DVD.

The rendered project can be played in a DVD player or on any computer with a DVD drive.

From the Tools menu, choose Burn Disc, and then choose DVD from the submenu to display the Burn DVD dialog.

Choose a setting from the Video format drop-down list to specify the parameters that should be used for rendering your video stream.

The Audio format box displays the parameters that should be used for rendering your audio stream.

Select recording options for your DVD burner:

Choose a drive from the Burn drive drop-down list to specify the drive you want to use.

From the Burn speed drop-down list, choose the speed at which you want to record. Max will record using the fastest speed possible with your drive; decrease the speed if you have difficulty recording.

Select the Eject when done check box if you want to eject the disc automatically when burning has completed.

Click OK to start rendering your image file and burning your disc.

I appreciate your response. I know the steps to burn from the timeline, my issue is my file size is too large to fit on a DVD. I was wondering is there was a way to change compression or something to get it to fit.

Yes, using Mark’s bit rate calculator using one of the render templates, but not directly from the timeline.
