  • Out of Synch: Audio Video Slip Further out in Timeline

The wonderful “Out of Synch” Feature has reared its ugly head again.

In a fresh project, I’ve added a video on the timeline of about 4 mins. It slips more and more out of synch down the timeline. Even with only the video added, the synch problems are there.

I did a small render of the last 15 seconds and that comes out ok.

What settings or hardware or crap (SVP11) is causing this?

Additional Data on Out- of Synch Timeline:

The original video is: MPG2 1440×1080 30 fps

These videos can’t be seen by SVP so I have to convert them.

I use Any Video Converter and transform them to mpeg4 720×480
    audio 441000 S Rate
    128 Audio bit rate
    aac codec

44.1kHz audio is for audio CDs, which may be causing the issue. Can you convert it to 48kHz? That’s standard for video.

Are you recording on two different devices like a video camera and an audio recorder and then manually syncing them up in Vegas?

Tom: I was provided the video and I’m pretty sure the answer is no.

But I take the original video provided me and convert it with “Any Video Converter”.

Another point is when I play the converted video on Windows media player, The video and audio are in synch. Also when I render, the video and audio are in synch.

I’ll try that and report back.

    Angelo:

I did that and the Synch is better in the timeline but still a bit off. The first 30 secs appear ok,but the synch deteriorates as the timeline goes on.

    Very strange.

The video played back in Windows media player is perfect and
if I render the video in SVP11 it also comes out correctly synched…
…just in the timeline when I edit is it out of synch.

    Mike,

I pretty much work only with audio and video recorded on separate systems and sync them in Vegas. I might have been able to offer some insight into the workflow I am familiar with. What you’re dealing with is outside of my experience, so good luck and I’ll follow the thread to see what happens next.

I think it may have something to do with the “time format”.
Drop frame, non drop frame, etc.
Those changes are made by right clicking the timecode right under the tabs where you find the explorer and transitions.

    Roger:

I’ve never been there before. After going there…

My Time Format is currently set for Time & Frames.

I really don’t know anything about this area.

What would be a good setting and where could I learn about them?

    Thanks
    Mike

I’m not an expert at the time thing but I do know that our PBS shows if set to drop frame but if it is set to non drop frame, the time code by the end of our show is off.

John Rofrano is an expert at this. Hope he doesn’t mind I mention him but he’s the one who would know if this is your problem.
