Out of sync after rendering preview files
Hoping someone might have some insight into this weird issue. I have been using this workflow for over a year now and this is the first time I have had this happen.
After I import my video file (h264) I render preview files as the playback can be slow and choppy without the preview files. When I import the video, the work area has a yellow bar across the top. After rendering the bar is green. I have been doing this repeatedly with no issues, but this time, for some reason, the preview render would add or subtract frames at random intervals, causing it to go out of sync with the audio. The audio tracks are separate files (I split up the 5.1 track to individual channels for mixing and editing purposes) and are not linked to the video.
At first I didnt understand what was happening, but then as I watched closer I noticed these skips or studders in the video where these frame issues were. So I deleted the preview files and looked at the original video and the problem was not there. So I rendered again, but the same thing happened except in different spots in the video than the first time.
To make matters more complicated, if I export a section that has the problem frames in it, the exported file does not have the issue. To me this means the problem is in the preview rendering process itself. This is a real big issue because I can’t edit the file with these errors in it. If I make an edit, it doesn’t end up being in the right place because of the frame issues that preceed the edit.
My setup:
Premiere pro 5.5 on Windows 7
Preview files folder is on a separate drive than where the original content lives. In fact I always render across separate drives, whether preview or export. The only thing that comes to mind is maybe my hard drive is going bad, causing errors while writing the preview files. Anyone have any ideas of what I might be able to check to keep this from happening again?
Sorry, there were no replies found.
