“Out of memory, save now!” error messages – PP and Encore
This may help you if you’re having problems with instability with PPro CS3 or CS4 and you get the rude and disconcerting “[BONG] We’re sorry, Premier Pro has encounted an error and must shut down…” message. OR the “Insufficienet memory, save RIGHT NOW” message in Encore.
I experienced a long bout of these problems, including messages that told me (in both PP and Encore) that there was insufficient memory. I have an Intel mobo, quad core, 4GB, XP Pro.
I updated drivers, double-checked connections, etc., consulted forums, NOTHING solved it. And anyway, Adobe’s help forums are next to useless (The Cow ROCKS!). It was so bad I had autosave set to 3 minutes (the interruptions, WHAT A PAIN!) and even got into the paranoid habit of manually saving more often than that.
The problem typically occurred with longer projects, but in fact, Task Manager, in every case, confirmed that I had sufficient memory available even allowing for the memory that the OS and video card taps.
But guess what? IT WAS THE MEMORY. Despite the computer POSTing without any indication or error, despite other programs not having a problem (which initially caused me to suspect PP and Encore), somehow the Kingston memory (ValueRam) was glitching when dealing with PP and Encore tasks (yes, this sporadic problem occurred ONLY when editing in PP or assembling a DVD in Encore).
I am not a computer technician, and cannot tell you why. Call dumb for not suspecting or testing the memory earlier. I just know that for whatever reason, I replaced the memory with some Patriot memory and
I haven’t had a single crash. And my editing efficiency has vastly increased, too. Imagine that!
Hope this helps…
