  • Out of AE to Avid , DNxHD or NOne option?

    Hi:
I have at question I cant seem to get my head around..:

    I did a project in Media Composer, a 1080p/ 25 project. (Pal)

    -Worked on DNxHD 120.

-Went out of Avid with a QT reference for color correction in After Effects.

-Did color correction in After effects from that QT reference of the project.

-Now I’m trying not to loose any quality when I go out of AE, back to Avid.

I have two options: Export out of After Effects with the QuickTime DNxHD codec and import that into Avid or export with the QT “None” option and go back to Avid.

I did some one second tests and I can’t see any difference between the two options, but what bugs me is that the DNxHD file’s size is about 30MB and the NONE (no compression) file size is about 200MB.

Does that mean that the NONE option has all that much more quality??

Is there the recommended output to go back to Avid as clean as possible?

    I would appreciate the help.
    Thanks in advance!

i would assume that if you use ‘none’ avid will be converting/transcoding when you import it. i would also assume that it would be transcoding to dnxhd.

so if you render straight to dnxhd, you shouldn’t be losing any quality, but you’ll be saving some transcoding time and disk space.
