Ouput audio always too low
Posted by John Kingman on May 13, 2010 at 3:09 pmIs there some setting in Final Cut for output audio that I don’t know about? Everything I export has very quiet audio, even when I’ve pushed the volume up in the timeline.

May 13, 2010 at 3:32 pmHow are you metering your audio?

May 13, 2010 at 3:37 pmI don’t know if this will answer your question, but I adjusted the sound levels in the clips and I listen to the audio through USB speakers.
As you can probably tell from my post, I am not well versed in audio issues.

May 13, 2010 at 3:53 pmin the Tool bench in FCP in the audio mixer tab you can see the levels in FCP as shown by the audio meters. these meters are not necessarily accurate as they are dependent on your gfx card for redraw thus the ballistics are lousy however they can put you in the ballpark if you have no external metering.
you’ll want the meters bouncing around-6 if you go out to tape a little under 0 for DVD.
this is a rough approximation.
for material recorded way too quiet you might try audiofilters>FCP>comp/limit
and vary the amount of expansion by making the threshold lower makes it louder higher makes it quieter.
