Don’t think we need a forum yet, but I will say that after spending 20 quiet minutes with Graeme, I’m completely sold on what the product will be and the potential to be a true turning point in aquisition.

[Leo Ticheli] “Almost anyone can design an ergonomic box with a lens mount and a holder for a chip; the challenges faced to bring it to market are considerable. Getting the image off the chip in a form that is manageable and usable is no mean task. Storage is not the slam-dunk many believe and this is fundamental to success. Work flow must be simple, reliable, and universal.”

I kind of disagree with that. Dual HD-SDI output and that’s all they need to worry about on their end. The customer can take care of it from their using all kinds of solutions. And someone is sure to provide a simple, elegant solution.

Personally, I think Sony and/or Panasonic could easilly produce this kind of thing. But they are milking every baby-step of technology they can. The real money is in selling tape stock and becoming a common standard in facilities. Everyone wants to have the next Digibeta. Devices like Red which leaves the storage options universal open-ended is not what Sony and Panasonic would like to see.

Then why is Panasonic introducing the P2 workflow all the way down the line to their full sized cameras? They’re also working with Focus Enhancements to bring larger hard-drives and varied atorage options to their products. And Panasonic doesn’t sell tape stock anymore, so that doesn’t make sense.

Again, Panasonic has varied options for storage with their current product offerings, so I really don’t see your point here. Red is an evolution in camera technology, assuming it makes it to market. But Panasonic is definitely embracing the varied storage options with their product line.

Sean, I think that Leo may have been referring to what goes into that ‘ergonomic box’. 😉

People want to talk about it, but people don’t want to talk about it right here.

Sounds like the ideal scenario for a Red forum to me.

Again the Motion forum was a good precedent.

my thoughts exactly Peter….i would like to discuss issues surrounding the camera, news and insight from those that talked to the team at NAB, currently there is no place to have that discussion.

the great thing about the cow is that those that have expressed such a distaste for a RED forum are welcome not to stop on by and those that do want to talk about it can do so there rather than cluttering up the board here – lets keep this forum at least vaugley FCP related 🙂

there was a lot of discussion about Motion before the app materialised and there was a pasture to talk about it….all I’m saying is that it would be good to have a zone to talk about this product, from it’s development and as new info is released by the team regarding their progress.

I think their kind of innovation should be encouraged rather than scoffed at….isn’t this the think different apple user crowd anyway?

    Paul,

Red is being discussed pretty extensively on almost every forum, so Ron and Kathlyn (not Kathy) will almost certainly start a Red forum. They’re pretty estute about these things…

    hey David

Time will tell…I guess Red could set up their own forum on their website, Oakley’s billions might stretch to providing the server space!

all the best – and back to FCP 🙂
