With the announcement from AJA of the 3GM converter & 3GDA distribution amp using the emerging 3Gig SDI standard, along with other 3 Gig products from For-A, Decklink & others, I’m wondering if there’s a 3 Gig Kona 4 in development?

And would such a product be optimized for 2k? Possible upgradeable to 4k?

    Just idle speculation.

Well, the Kona 3 allows 2×1.5Gb SDI so this box would allow you to take a 3Gb single SDI and split it into dual link.

Working in 1080p60 are you? 🙂

The Kona3 can do 2k now.

Yep, I was demonstrating that at last year’s NAB. Been 2K since it was released.

As for a “kona 4” you know you would not hear anything about a future product until it was ready to be announced. But as Jeremy says, the Kona 3 is already capable of handling what you’re asking for today.

Purely idle speculation on an idle day.

Both are true. What really piqued my interest was the announcement of the 3 gig SDI mini converter & DA. I’m guessing that the 3 gig standard will be more important in film & VFX than in broadcast.
