it’s Number 3 market in the US……

April 24, 2007 at 8:14 pmSounds about right….
Seems like Apple has a way with no thinking about the user base sometimes…
Even though we have an Apple store in the Memphis area, it seems like no one there has any clue that Apple also sells professional products. They can point it out on the shelf but that’s about the extent of their knowledge (that includes the support desk).

Well those are consumer stores, not Pro stores so I would not expect anyone at Apple Stores to know much if anything about the Pro apps. The local Atlanta store brings in local pro’s like myself to give seminars and introductory tips from time to time about the apps, but never on their own.

April 24, 2007 at 10:32 pmThat monkey was me!
Its how I keep it easy on my feet while seeing all the stuff at NAB.
BTW, I just noticed FCP6 has a new feature which I suggested a year ago. Drag a clip into a new timeline and you are asked if you want the timeline to be foremated for that clip, click yup and your on your way.
I love it when they listen..

April 25, 2007 at 1:07 pmSo, being very deep south, and in the middle of a state now MASSIVE with Hollywood and Indie productions (Hollywood South), I know more than one college here who’s film/broadcast depts are switching to FCP. Most studios here are switching to FCP. I teach it here and the majority of these folks are in my class cause they’re being “forced” to switch by their bosses. We even have a highschool that is an Academic AATC. The massive switching from PC to Mac here is massive, yet totally unnoticed.
Apple still doesn’t do anything here, either, outside of a few things they do to encourage the local FCP users group. No store, no tour stops, no advertising, nothing.
I’m going to say Apple has a budget and is doing these marketing moves in areas they will get the most ROI from. At least I’d hope that’s what they’re doing.
Now my big delimma; I’m between two cities that will have the seminars, so do I drive 500 miles or 600 miles to see this seminar, and is it worth that long ass drive?

“Personally, I have found that your best source of information is this forum. Biased and unbiased… eventually you’ll discover the truth. Besides, going to NAB is probably my best source for info since I can put my hands on it there.

April 25, 2007 at 3:36 pmI’m not looking for info, I’ll have FCS2 up and running before either Dallas or Atlatna shows. I’ll just be there with some of my students and colleges from the southeast Louisiana area (I’m ACT, I don’t “need” to get my info from this tour).
Also, I missed NAB (due to Apple canceling a training the day before NAB, I couldn’t afford to do both, so Apple made sure I couldn’t do either, plus be out of air fare). But I didn’t miss any news from NAB. Several on-line sources were feeding us info live from NAB. So you don’t really have to be AT NAB to get all the info live from NAB.
But the question, and it’s not a totally serious one, is the FCS2 Tour worth a full 8 hour drive each way to see? Probably not. But Apple never does anything closer to use than Dallas or Atlanta. At least they hit Chicago on occation, but seem to totally ignore the unbelievably booming film industry here in Louisiana. That was my sarcastic point, though not clearly made.
