OT: Possible SPAM? Email subject line: [Service Announcement] New MySony portal has launched! Activate your account now
Hello, just checking to see if anyone has received an email from MySony [ma**@********nz.com] with a subject line of [Service Announcement] New MySony portal has launched! Activate your account now.
Is this legitimate? My spam blocker didn’t pick it up. I am wary about any email that asks me to reset my password, especially if I did not initiate it.
My system specs: Intel i7 970, GTX570, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 12 (x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

Hard to say. Where are you from? Sony ANZ is Sony Australia and New Zealand. Do you have any reason to believe that Sony Australia would know about you? (like you live there?) Unless you care about joining a Sony portal, just delete the email and move on.

I am based in Australia, Brisbane to be more precise. Sony may possibly know about me (i think), but all my Vegas purchases were made in the US portal going back to 2008. The timing of the email coincides with the Magix acquisition of Vegas, but phishers also use such opportunities to steal identities. I might sit on this email for a while.

Nothing like that hasn’t come my way. I would simply tell you to ignore and delete it.

Sounds like it could feasibly be legitimate. I went to the web site and it looks like a Sony site. They even have a downloadable app on Google Play and the iTunes App Store. It might be real but it’s up to you to determine if you want to sign up. I would just ignore it.

I’m also based in Australia and have been using Vegas products since 2006, and I haven’t received anything like this, so I would agree that it is probably spam.
