    Purchased MacPro 2 x 2.66 DUAL Core in October of 2007 for FCP.

    Lately, feels slow. New machine = expensive!

    Looking at brand New MacPro, the “low end” model = 1 x 2.66 QUAD Core.

    Will this new comp be any faster with:

    -FCP render and amount of realtime abilities with same RAID?
    – with after fx rendering?

    On the surface this feels like the same amount of “cores” at the same speed – but I’m guessing the way FCP and AE deal with the setups will be different. Or not, which is why I’m asking.

    I’m sure the new system would be snappier, faster processor (at same clock speed), faster RAM, and faster system bus.

    But I would not speed money unless I’m making a major jump in speed. Personally I would wait to see what happens with Snow Leopard and FCP7 before getting a new system, and even then I would wait until I could afford an 8-core system.

    Just my 2 cents.
