  • OT: is iTunes 10 safe for Vegas?

I know all about the warnings not to do this (got burned by doing this in the past) but I thought I’d ask anyway.
My family is bugging me to install the newest version of iTunes on my computer which also has Vegas Pro on it.
Has anyone been brave enough to do this and did it cause you any grief?
I’m fortunate in that this is my home computer and I have Vegas on it only for the times that I want to do some work stuff at home.
If iTunes did mess it up, it wouldn’t be the end of the world to me.
Frustrating but not the end of the world.
I’m certain that someone has already done this so I’m just curious as to what their experience was.
    Thanks.
    BTW, I’m running Pro 9.0e

Me too… I have iTunes 10 with Quicktime 7.6.8 installed and everything is working fine with Vegas Pro 9.0e.

[Mike Kujbida] “Thanks very much for making my wife and kids happy again :-)”

… and when the “wife” is happy… the whole family is happy!!! (and there is once again order in the universe) lol ;-D

    So true John.
They just want to be able to download apps again and without the update, they no longer could (darn Apple!!).
Why iTunes HAS to be on my computer, I’ll never know.
    Guess that’s what I get for being such a nice husband/dad 🙂

If you have seen my thread below you will see that you can easily get things not to work if you have some versions of Quicktime installed. I still haven’t gotten a solution to have Vegas display MOV files & getting iTunes to work while Quicktime is installed. Maybe the new iTunes 10 will work but why should I try it.

Perhaps you didn’t understand my post in that thread. iTunes 10 is not going to solve anything.

    Here are the facts:

    1. Apple broke Vegas MOV support with Quicktime 7.6.3.
    2. Sony fixed Vegas Pro 9.0d to work around the problem. Versions of Vegas prior to 9.0d will not work with versions of Quicktime after 7.6.2
    3. If you don’t have Vegas Pro 9.0d or later you MUST stay at Quicktime 7.6.2 or earlier.

Unfortunately iTunes is tightly married to Quicktime. You cannot use the latest iTunes with Quicktime 7.6.2 so you have no choice but stay at an older version of iTunes or upgrade Vegas to 9.0d+ to use the latest.

    Those are your options.
