I have been wondering if there is a device available that will take the concept of the kvm matrix a few steps further on….
Does anyone know if a device exists that will let me do the following….
I have 2 macs, and two screens side by side – using my KVM Matrix i can switch between dual screen mode for either computer, or one screen for each computer, and it can all be operated from one keyboard/wacom tablet.
What i now want to do, is have the ability to have one keyboard SIMULTANEOUSLY control both computers in such a way that by moving the cursor from one screen to another the control switches to which ever computer has the cursor. This would also allow the fast transfer of files from one mac to the other by simply drag n dropping.
I know its probably impossible, but if anyone knows of such a device i’d love to hear more about it.

It depends…is there one main computer and one for, like, rendering or something?
I ask, because your best chance is to get Leopard on both machines and use the screen sharing function. Basically, bring up one Mac’s screen in a window within the other. Kind of like running Windows in Parallels, except in this case it’s an actual, physical, other Mac running in the Window.
The reason I ask about “main” computer is that this control won’t be quite as fast and quite as smooth as your current setup. If you’re editing in Final Cut on both machines, this might not work.
But if one machine if doing something like rendering or web browsing or something like that, it would be a prime candidate for being the shared screen.

thanks Jeff – you just reminded me i already have the Apple Remote Desktop software – and although i have almost never used it, it might be just the ticket!
