August 27, 2015 at 6:53 pm[Bret Williams] “Ah true I remember playing with that years ago. But not exactly the same thing is it?”
Nope, not exactly. 🙂 It seems like a no-brainer to build scopes into the application and make them easy to access.
[Bret Williams] “Do you have to add cf to get the scopes?”
Yes, unfortunately. I feel like CF needs to be re-thought in the face of Adobe’s new focus on color. Maybe we’ll see the Lumetri Color Panel in AE at some point (for those of us who still use AE).
[Bret Williams] “But AE has video out so I can always use scopes on the Flanders.”
That’s how I use scopes with AE – via the built in WF and VS on my Panasonic monitors. I agree though, scopes should be built directly into the application.

I still have a copy of Shake. Just purchased it a couple of months before it got put on the chopping block. Now there is something like it for free. Oh well, at least I have a museum piece since Shake will not run under Yosemite.
The magnetic timeline, it’s magnetic-o-matic!

August 28, 2015 at 9:13 pmThe real question is whether you can send a whole timeline of clips to Fusion and work with them, like you can in After Effects. If Fusion is only one shot at a time, then it’s not any more useful to most editors than Motion is now or than Shake was in the past. IOW a great single-shot compositor, but not a viable motion graphics/finishing tool. For those who’ve started to dabble, can it do that?

AFAIK, only with Media Composer via the Avid Connect plug-in… and that’s only available in the Studio version. I wouldn’t expect that to change any time soon.

Although I’ve never used it, I believe that’s still only one shot at a time. The Connect plug-in sends that shot to Fusion where you process it.

August 29, 2015 at 9:48 amHaving just played with it, single shot basis is the name of the game. Motion graphics best done in a layer based scenario unless one enjoys lots of nodes.

Ah, I see. Thinking about it, I don’t see how you could work with sequences of clips in Fusion, the way you do in AE or Motion. It will be interesting to see if BMD comes up with a way to satisfy the folks who need that capability.
