    Hi Everyone,

A little off topic, but I need to get some new DVD recorders for our edit suites, dubbing area; and up until now we’ve been using the Pioneer DVR line (which has worked out great), BUT Pioneer has stopped making most of their line with only a couple of higher end units left with harddrives. One of the main reasons that we went with the Pioneer units is the fact that the recorders DO NOT default to a ‘menu first play.’ Since most of the DVD recorders have a awful menu, I like it to just go straight to the video. (Since this is mostly for one-off’s and rough cuts-we don’t want to take the time to author a DVD)

To the question: What other brands of DVD recorders burn with the first play to go straight to the video?

    Thanks for your help,

This was just discussed in great detail over the past two or three weeks. I would suggest you do a search on this forum.

    Hi Walt,

try to give me a little credit…as a forum leader I would try to abide by the same rules that I would like all poster’s to do. I’m not interested in generic info on DVD recorders, nor to I need help in figuring out how to set one up. My specific question only is mentioned in one post -in regards to the units that I’m trying to replace- so that doesn’t help.
If you know of a thread that deals specifically with DVD recorder first play function, please let me know.

As to my original post; I’m looking for a DVD recorder that DOES NOT default to the menu when played for the first time.
So, as it pertains to you-I believe your Panasonic recorder does go to a menu, then the user would need to push play before the video will play. I spoke with Panasonic tech support over a year ago, to ask if one could change this feature-no you can’t. Panasonic also said that this is the way that ALL of their DVD recorders work. Ipso-facto – I don’t want to buy a Panasonic DVD recorder since it doesn’t have the functionality I need. But the Pioneers do, BUT they don’t make any lower end models-Hence I’m full circle (back to my original post) does anyone has a recorder that doesn’t go to the menu?

I hope this clears up why my original post was not something that could have been found in searching previous posts.

    Thanks,

[Todd at UCSB] “I believe your Panasonic recorder does go to a menu,”

Our machine can be set to go to menu or first chapter when we finalize the disc.

    interesting…?

Can you set a default so every DVD is finalized this way (go to first chapter)-without choosing it in the finalization process?

It might seem trival, but we have 10+ Pioneer recorders-over 4 edit suites, 2 studios, and a duplication area, so even the smallest change get multipled by a factor of 10.

    Thanks again Walt.

Not that I’ve found. There’s no way to preset anything that I can tell, but honestly we’ve never looked at the manual as Menu is always what our clients want to see.
