January 4, 2010 at 2:11 pmI used Getdataback for NTFS a few years ago when I had severe hard drive failure problems. It did a good job of recovering files even though the HD had been reformatted.

My WD 500 ext drive logic board died after I incorrectly plugged in the wrong adapter. I wish they made it harder to do that but other than sending it off to be recovered at a facility to the tune of an average of $1000 plus. Not a great way to start the year.

January 4, 2010 at 8:53 pmI have had good results with ONTRACK Data recovery but it is expensive.
Now I use EASEUS DATA RECOVERY PROFESSIONAL with excellent results. -

January 5, 2010 at 6:30 amThanks for the advice. I’ve searched around and am very leary of the low end offers. It looks like a minimum of a 1000 for the 500 gig.
