As I’ve said before, I value the opinions of the people on this Vegas forum, so here is the off topic question. What is the best way to clean the dust out of the computer? Is it best to open up the box and use compressed air to blow the dust out or is it best to use a vaccuum to clean out the dust? I’ve heard that using a vaccuum is bad because of static shock. Any ideas? Thanks.

I would prefer compressed air. Don’t forget the fans too.

Back a few months ago, my 4 yr. old computer died and nothing I could do to save it so I found an experienced pro in my area who made house calls. Prior to his arival I vacumed out the cpu with a soft brush attachment and thought I got quite a bit out. The first thing he did when he arrived, was to take my cpu outside on my driveway and useing my leaf blower blew out a huge cloud of dust. I was a little concerned about using a leaf blower, but he said he’s been doing it for years on every cpu he fixes. He said it’s a good thing I don’t smoke and my office was neat, or it would have been much worse.

I’ve used a vacuum with a brush attachement on many people’s computers for years. It generally works pretty good. Just be carefull when using stuff like that on the fans, you can break a fin, then you’ve got to replace the whole fan. I like the leaf blower idea quite a bit. It ought to have enough power to knock almost everything out of the heatsynch on the CPU. I’d never thought of it before, but wish I had, would have made some jobs much easier. Again, just be careful with the fans.

I carry my computers out to my garage and open up the case and blow them out with my air compressor. It’s amazing how much dust accumulates in just a few months.
