I have a Panasonic BT-LH1700w, I’ve had it for about a year and never noticed this before.

I was editing today and it appeared as though I had a key that was slightly off, which resulted in a straight line down the middle of the monitor and to the left of the line it was slightly darker (therefore I assumed it may be an improper key). After troubleshooting for a while to find the offending key (was working with a multi-layer animation), I got smart and put bars up, got the same line. So it wasn’t my animation, but on the monitor itself. I panicked as I thought I had a burn-in. I put a few different colors up and noticed something very strange.
There is not 1 line, but the monitor appears to be broken up into 4 vertical quarters, and each one is slightly darker/brighter that the other.
I turned off the monitor for a while and turned it back on, they were gone, but after a while they reappeared.
The fact that they are so uniform leads me to believe its some sort of monitor function, but I’m not sure what function that would serve.

Anyone with experience with this monitor….Should I worry? Support is closed, so I thought I’d ask the herd first.

I glanced thru the manual, but don’t even know what to look for.

It may be hard to see on this pic, but look at the center, and you should see that one, then halfway (each direction) there is another one.
    Any clues?

It has gone away again after turning the monitor off and letting it sit for a few minutes, so I’m pretty sure its not burn-in or major damage, but I’m very curious as to whats going on.

    Todd,

I think this has to do with that LCD’s can have something like a burn in effect if a static picture is left on for a while (don’t know how long though)

I had the same issue with a BenQ LCD retaining a faint color bars causing me to panic and suspect my video i/o was playing up. Same solution as you by just switching it off for a while.

I then read the confirmation somewhere (forgotten where) and now have my video i/o set up to send out black if FCP is not open. I also switch to black when I leave the desk and do not switch off the monitor. Basically I treat my LCD video monitor as I treat my compi screen: LCD last longer if you put them to sleep or switch them off when not using them.

    Cheers

    Carsten
