os-x 10.6 and p2 and xdcam hd
Posted by Bob Zelin on September 30, 2009 at 11:35 pmHi –
I have cross posted this on both XDCam and P2 forums on Cow. As of 9/30/09, the new MAC’s come preloaded with 10.6, not 10.5.x. But as per the Sony and PAnaosnic sites, there is no driver support for their products with 10.6. Am I stuck – do I downgrade these new out of the box MAC’s back to os-x 10.5.8 ?Bob Zelin

September 30, 2009 at 11:44 pmI know what I’d do… Stick a bootable 10.5.8 clone in each new machine until all the necessary drivers for 10.6 are available.

for xdcam SxS you can use USB to transfer from the camera without issue in leopard.I have an old PCD10 USB card reader that seems to be working Ok for P2 stuff.
otherwise you are in KP hell.

October 6, 2009 at 11:23 amWe’ve just bought a new machine and upgraded existing to Snow Leopard. We use 2 XDCAM HD (F330 & F350) cameras and the current version of Sony’s XDCAM transfer software (2.10). We went to transfer for the first time today in Snow Leopard and hit this problem.
The XDCAM transfer software is unable to fetch the proxy data (both stills and low-res Quicktimes). It can transfer the clips into FCP, you have to cancel each error message, but can import as you normally would. However, as you have no proxy file for previewing it makes naming and choosing clips a non-starter. Sony’s line is that they not officially supporting Snow Leopard yet and are estimating a fix for this next Spring!!! So anyone in the same boat as us will be hopping mad too. We’re rolling one machine back to Leopard as an ingest station – that’s the only option at the moment. If you’re using EX cameras they’ve released a new Snow Leopard driver for the SxS cards.
If anyone else has the same problem please phone Sony & complain – the more people that call them, the sooner they’ll update the software.
Best,
Alex
