That depends on how stable you think the first release of Windows 7 will be. Vista 64 was almost unusable prior to SP1. Windows 7 is really Vista 64 with less bloat so it might be fairly stable. You might want to download the public beta and see for yourself.

The question is can you wait until Windows 7 is released and will Vista 64 drivers work with Windows 7? We have waited years for Vista 64 drives and I’m still waiting for some for my audio hardware and DVD duplicator. I wouldn’t even consider upgrading from XP to Vista 32-bit or Windows 7 32-bit. Why bother if you can’t use more than 3.5GB of memory just like XP. So I would definitely move to 64-bit or stay with XP.

I’m running Vista 64 and while it has a lot of frustrating quirks that I hope they fix in Windows 7, it do like it better than XP. It’s really a personal choice that only you can make.

Ok to start off with I would tell you that Vista is no longer an issue, yes when it first came out it was the black sheep of OS’s that no one wanted to talk to but I personally believe that that after SP1 Vista was at the level of XP.

Secondly Windows 7 is going to be awesome as long as they don’t drop the ball which I’m guessing they won’t because this is like their last chance before people swear off microsoft all together.

I myself hesitaed to install Vista as I saw all the problems that it was riddled with when it first came out. I work for Geek Squad so I see just about every kind of problem that many people run into. However I reccomend it to family, friends, and customers because I know that the OS works as it is the only one I use other than Windows 7 (Beta).

FYI, Windows 7 is a Vista redo. They did some tweaks and changed it up a bit because no one wants to hear the words “Windows Vista” nobody trusts it. The are basically rebranding Vista because no one will give it a second chance.

To make a long post short I say get that i7, I myself have been using it along with Vegas Pro and Vista x64 and I can render video like it’s no ones business.

And I wouldn’t wait for Windows 7, chances are that it won’t come out till 2010 because many things are riding on this release and share holders would defintly freak if this one flopped. Allthough no OS is perfect, thus the importance of updating your computer.

I am running an i7 computer w/Vista 64 made by Velocity Micro and a M-Audio FW2626. It is a rendering Monster. Yes there are a few quirks but for the most part stable and super fast. After working in Vista 64 I can’t go back to XP. However if I end up having any real problems I guess I will finally have to break down a get a Mac. If I do I’m bringing Vegas with me. Or maybe its time to learn FCP 🙁

I have also been running the Beta version of W7, though not with Vegas yet. I could not stand Vista in any form, but W7 seems to have fixed everything I didn’t like about Vista.
