original clamp starting point – truck rig and trailer

i want to have a consistent starting position for the trailer using my current rig (clamp and aim setup). its super simple, and i love that about it, but I want it to start out at the same place every time. i tried a keyframe, but the key seems to override the clamp tag. suggestions?

Ah, i figured out a solution:
on the character constraint tag, i animate the strength of PSR from 100% to 0% between first and second frame. this sets it to another object for a desired starting location.
