organize clips by time caputred in the real world
Hi. Kind of a rudimentary question I guess. Is there anyway to organize the clips in the project window by a column that shows the time of day the clip was captured in the camera. I’m pretty sure this info is put into the metadata of the clip in the camera. I just can’t find a way to view it in FCP.

Should we try to guess what kind of media this is and what shot it? Maybe DV? HDV? AVCHD? XDCAM? DVCPROHD? If it’s tape based that metadata is lost unless you have time of day timecode. You can organize the window based on reel number and them timecode number. If the reels are sequentially numbered the clips will appear in shoot order. Other formats have other options for ingesting metadata, which will also vary depending on the version you’re using.

I should have mentioned the media. It is HDV 1080p 30fps shot on a Sony Z7U and shot to both tape and CF card. And 1080i 60 from a Z1U shot to tape. I know my old SD DV deck would show the time of day the footage was shot. It seems like a no brain to bring that info over in metadata just like we have with still images.
