  • Optimistic FCP to Color speed ramp question…

    Hello All,

Our editor is currently very pushed for time (4 music promos shot RED to cut & conform as uncompressed HD mov* for grading in 10 days)!

*yes a strange workflow but this is outside our control!

We have been asked to really mess with the clips in terms of cuts and more importantly speed ramps.

He is working with ProRes proxies then using Clip Finder to re-link to the .r3d files before sending to Color to conform. The classic speed ramp problem remains though, because so many clips are speed ramped this is going to take a lot of time to individually conform these with the ideal speed ramp results.

So the question is: Is there an automated way of importing speed ramped clips into Apple Color and ideally resizing them all to 1080p from different .r3d sizes?

Tools we have to do this with are FCP 7 (Studio) and After Effects, we have access to Nuke but noone here knows how to use it.

I think from my delving into various forums that this doesn’t seem like there is an easy work around, but as I said – I’m optimistic!

    Thanks for your time!

To my knowledge, no. “Baking” the clip by exporting them as Self Contained movies and reimporting them as I show in my FCP to Color tutorial is the best and most fool proof way to do this.

Thanks Walter, I believe this is the workflow he is currently using.

    Cheers,
