  • Optimal setting for MacBook Pro

    Hi guys,

I just upgraded my MacBook Pro(2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 120GB HD) to 4GB of RAM to aid my renders in AE, and so far I am unimpressed with the results.

I know AE can only utilize 3GB RAM currently, but I am looking for advice from users that run AE on a notebook to see what preference settings really help maximize the use of RAM.

    Any suggestions??

Try turning on multiprocessing in the preferences and tweaking your Memory & Cache settings.

Here would be my recommended settings (you may want to play with this a bit):

    Memory & Cache:

Maximum Memory Usage: 120% (Never set this above 140%, the 120% default seems good)

Maximum RAM Cache Size: 50% (Believe it or not, smaller values are often better here… not too small though)

Enable Disk Cache: On (this isn’t really all that necessary)

Maximum Disk Cache Size: 2000MB – 4000MB (if its enabled, you can change this to a higher value if you have the space, but it probably won’t be used. Its not recommended to use less than 2000MB)

    Multiprocessing:

    Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously: On

I’m running a MacBook Pro also (Intel Core Duo 2.16GHz), however only have 2GB of RAM. Will the same settings listed above work for me as well?
    Thanks
