Operation not allowed – out of memory? FCP5
Posted by Rory Hinds on August 9, 2005 at 12:13 pmHi there
I’ve got a problem in that my project will not open anyone else come across the “Operation not Allowed” – then the “Out of memory”.
I’ve tried a restart and have only FCP running on my G5 with 4Gb Ram. Seems this project is corrupt, how do I rescue all my work?
Please help
Thanks

August 9, 2005 at 12:58 pmGo into your Memory / Cache Allocations and up the Still Cache to about 30 – 50%. Something is very screwy right now with the Still Memory Cache with FCP 5.0 and 5.0.2 that needs to be addressed by Apple.

August 9, 2005 at 1:05 pmIn the mean time, go to your audo save vault and try to pull up an older version of your project.
I had the same thing happen to me. It seems to be corrupting the project or at least the sequences.

August 9, 2005 at 2:00 pmDo you have PSD files in your sequence? Big ones? YOu could try taking those offline first to see if they’re the culprit. PSD files have been known to cause this error in FCP.

First Trash your prefs. Then launch FCP and let it open the Untitled Project. NOW Change your Memory Allocation, THEN open your project that’s causing the problems.

August 9, 2005 at 2:53 pmHey Apple … do you know just how many of us are reading these posts and “holding off” on upgrading to Tiger…… countless thousands. Don’t get me wrong …. as an Avid transplant … I love all the cool things Apple is doing …and I love FCP … but as a professional editors we cannot accept this amount of serious bugs in our primary editing program.

August 9, 2005 at 2:59 pmdo you really think A) Apple read these post? & B) cares?
I think Apple is way to busy counting its earnings from iPod and other consumer based products that. Pro users don’t really have much of a voice with Apple these days. They want to be the new Sony 🙂

Actually, yes the Apple teams do read these posts.

August 9, 2005 at 5:42 pmYou could send them feedback directly from FCP instead of hoping they see your post somewhere on the web. And yeah, Jobs has been quoted as saying that the only competition he thought Apple has in the home computer media hub dept. is Sony.
