Opening Vegas Pro 9 file in Vegas 10

I have Platinum 10 as well. I am not a Vegas Pro expert, but I guess that .VEG files simply cannot be read on the Studio versions, because some Pro features do not exist in Studio, like velocity envelopes for instance.

And anytime I tried to open .VEG files in Studio it failed (anyway I had to rename them to .VF, otherwise they are not even seen by the Open Project dialog box).

I tried renaming the VEG file to VF before as well, but it didn’t works. The comment about the pro version not being compatible with the platinum version could be THE problem, allthough I didn’t use any of the pro features as far as I know.

Vegas Pro can open Movie Studio files but it doesn’t work the other way.

That doesn’t matter. Movie Studio cannot open Vegas Pro projects although Vegas Pro can open Movie Studio projects of the same or lesser version number.

is there any way to open this project or should I return Vegas 10 and return to 9.0?

If you thought that Movie Studio 10 was an upgrade to Vegas Pro 9 you were mistaken. It’s a downgrade and has less features. If I were you I would stick with Vegas Pro 9.0 and wait for Vegas Pro 10 if you are looking for an upgrade.

I hope the person who told you it was an upgrade was not the person who sold it to you because they are very misinformed. There was a time when the Pro version got updated first and the Studio version followed but now that Sony is updating the Studio version first they have really confused customers. You’re not the first person who though the move to Movie Studio was an upgrade. Hopefully you can return it without a hassle.

Vegas Pro 10 CAN open Movie Studio Platinum 9 and Platinum 10 projects, but frames are off by one frame – at least with mine, they are.

I have a project from Platinum 9 with the main video on one track, and another video on a track above it. When I open this project in Pro 10, the bottom (main) video is off-center to the left by one frame.

I’m sure it’s something I not doing right, but for the life of me, I can’t figure out how to fix it.
