Opening Credits
Assuming you are working on say a 30 minute project, at what point do you create the opening credits/montage, if any. Before, after or during?
Then, what is your approach to coming up with a theme/style to the credits or montage that you create.I am speaking mainly to one-person operations, where you are the shooter, editor, producer, designer, etc.
I do it after the main program is finished, kind of delayed gratification. Also by the time I have finished the cut, I can easily find snippets of video from the program to feature in the opening.
As far as coming up with a theme, I refer to the color scheme of my graphics used in the program, but the greatest challenge is coming up with something that looks good but does not take too much time to create (ie, hours of keyframing, mask making etc.)

One advantage to doing it afterward is adjusting the program timing in the montage. The nature of the program tells me what graphics approach to take. History sends me one way, topical sends me another way. I try to integrate the name super graphic theme as part of the overall graphic package. It doesn’t have to be pedantic, but it should relate in some way.Del
