  • Opening a .prproj file in Vegas 13

    Hi !

Wanted to help out a friend of mine who works with Adobe Premiere (latest version). He sent me his .prproj file and all related files. I had noticed that in Vegas 13 you could import .prproj files and figured it would be easy peasy.

This is the message that Vegas 13 gives me:

    Exception Message: Invalid project.
    Stack Trace: at VegasScripts.AEImporter.ImportSequence(XmlElement eltDoc)
at VegasScripts.AEImporter.Import(String fileName, Vegas vegas, Project project, LogCallback log, Action createUndoBlock, Action disposeUndoBlock)
at VegasScripts.ProjectInterchangeImporter.HandleInvokedInternal(String openDialogName, String openDialogExt, String undoBlockName, IImporter importer)

Anyone had this before ? Any suggestions ?

    Thx !!!

[Francois Pénzes] “Exception Message: Invalid project.”

I’m going to guess that he might be using a newer version of Premiere Pro than Vegas Prop 13.0 (which is 2 years old now) supports.

    Hi Jon

He is running Premiere Pro CC 2015.2, V9.2.0

Does this mean that I’m up the creek without a paddle ? I may get lucky and when MVP 14 rolls out, it will be able to understand the file.

It would be nice if Magix could somehow make the next version compatible in order to open other types of project files. That would make MVP most desirable.

    Thank you Jon !!!

It was just a guess on my part based on the fact that Vegas thought it was an invalid project. Since Vegas Pro 13 was released in 2014, it may very well be that it cannot open a project from PPro 2015. Again just a guess.

I also wouldn’t expect much even when it does work. All you will get are video files on a timeline with cuts and fades. That’s it! None of the FX will be there. None of the generated media like titles will be there. Any retiming won’t convert over. It’s extremely minimal what you get.

I’m not sure what you thought you were going to do to help your friend but it’s not likely you can do much more than a rough cut unless you were going to finish their rough cut. So it may not give you what you want anyway.

    Hi Jon

Thank you for taking of your time to reply.

My friend is basically starting in editing. I was going to use his basic timeline to demonstrate some basic ”how to”. It will have to wait ’till Christmas when we all get together.

Thank you again Jon, much appreciated !!!

You’re welcome. That will probably be more effective if you sit together anyway. I don’t believe there would be any way to send the project back to Premiere for him to see even if you did edit it.
