open all Timeline regions in Trimmer (for one file) // batch create subclips from regions // demote media markers (regions)
I should have started in the trimmer? In some cases that could be the answer, but I don’t think so in this case.*
I have 30 regions in the timeline. I could one-by-one select the regions (ctrl-right-arrow, ctrl-shift-right-arrow) and open them in the trimmer and create regions in the trimmer and right-click the region headers and click create subclips (all of that one-at-a-time), but if a track has only one source file, I should be able to do that operation in one swoop, no? If one swoop (“create subclips from regions”) is for some reason not possible, can we
(1) select all regions, or select multiple regions (perhaps using the selection tool by clicking “d”)
(2) open all selected regions in the trimmer,
(3) mark all selected areas in the trimmer as regions (perhaps this step could be skipped?),
(4) for all selected areas in the trimmer, create subclips.Demote Media Markers: I just realized steps 1 to 3 equate to “demote media markers” (for regions). A “Promote Media Markers” script exists. Could a Demote Media Markers script work?
Alternatively, skip the trimmer, just “create subclips from regions” in the timeline. If Vegas encounters a region comprised of more than one source file, it could report an error at the timecode, but continue processing subsequent regions. If that can’t be native to Vegas, could a script do that, in whole or in part? I imagine this could work without specifying a track. If track 1 contains clip 1 from 0:00 to 1:00 and then is either muted or empty, and track 2 contains clip 2 from 1:00 to 2:00, I imagine it should be possible to create subclips in a batch process across multiple tracks as long as the regions do not contain more than one clip. Yes?
* I imagine someone saying I should have started in the trimmer. I don’t think so in this case, but please do tell if you still think so after reading the process: I have 3 videos of the same speech, delivered on 3 occasions, recorded each time by one camera. Sometimes the speaker spoke better than others, so we want to use the best versions of those sections. The presentations were all in the same location, so it’s not too jarring to switch from one take to another. My task was to create one full-length video. Then I was given a 2nd task: create a highlights ‘reel’. I have already marked up the timeline with most of the key moments. Surely there’s a way to open all the regions in the trimmer?
using: Vegas Pro 15
wish #1: in the trimmer, batch create subclips from regions*
wish #2: same, in the timeline, on a single track with no overlapping files
* (ideally with the option to name the subclip using the region text – either appended or replacing the filename)
