Opaque Title
Posted by Jim Murphy on June 2, 2011 at 9:59 pmI am wanting to create a title in Vegas Pro 10 that is situated in a smallish opaque rectangle, so that the video on the timeline can be seen behind the rectangle–similar to the titles used to identify people on news shows etc. Can this be done? Thanks, Jim

June 2, 2011 at 11:15 pmYou can use Generated Media to make the triangle and you can set the transparency right in the color selector. Probably the easiest way is to create a Solid Color generated media and use the Cookie Cutter FX on with the triangle preset.
Here is how you set transparency:

always takes a heavy hit on render times on long projects.Steve Rhoden

June 12, 2011 at 3:12 amJohn,
I am doing something wrong. What I am ending up with is a solid white rectangle (the actual shape I want) with the name of the person inside the white rectangle. That’s close to what I want, but what I really want is the white box to be translucent and showing in an opaque manner the video of the “actor.”
Here is what I have: On the top track I have the text media with the title of the actor.
On the middle track I have the white generated media, with the cookie cutter positioned so that the white rectangle is at the bottom center. The cookie cutter is set to “cut away all but section.” The text media shows the actor’s title. Where your example shows the ability to adjust the transparency, I have a solid black box with no way to adjust the transparency.
On the lower track I have the video event.
I suspect you can tell me what I am doing wrong. Thanks, Jim

I sent a question on June 11 about your response. Not sure if you saw it…maybe you are on vacation. I would still appreciate your help if you see this. Thanks, Jim

Are you sure that you are looking at the Solid Media color setting. It should be just like my screen shot. The little white arrow that my red arrow is pointing to controls the transparency. Just pull it down toward the bottom.
If you don’t have this ability, please post a screen shot so I can see what you’re seeing.
