One more transplant for my old MacPro!
Excited by the new Mac Pro but I won’t have the budget for one for another 6 months so I’ve decided to add one more upgrade to my 2008 8 core 3.1 MacPro. It currently has SSD boot drive, 16GB RAM and a Radeon 4870 card that really shouldn’t work very well but has been very good so far with FCPX.
The only thing that seems very slow on my system is filmstrip and waveform redraw on longer timelines, it may be a stupid question but will a better graphics card improve this significantly?
I don’t mind spending more money on the system as it’s worked well so far and will continue in use even when I get the new one?

Hi Steve,
I have the exact same setup. I am thinking about adding a 5770 to see if I can benefit from two graphics cards.
Does anyone know if the cards have to match?
